Winemaker’s Tasting Notes and Comments We looked to build on the experience of our gold-medal winning 2003 and 2004 Syrahs in 2005. A dark wine, more purplish than ruby-red, features aromas of jammy berries, white pepper and violets. The mouthfeel is smooth and plush with blackberry jam, a little chocolate and some earthiness on the finish. Only 90 cases produced. The Vineyard Clifton Hill Vineyard is located in the Wahluke Slope AVA near the town of Mattawa, Washington. Situated on a southwest facing hill that overlooks the Columbia River 2¼ miles away, this is one of the warmer vineyard sites in Washington State. Managed by the Milbrandt Brothers, the vineyard is predominantly made up of sand and basalt gravel.
